It may not have been the most eloquent speech, or anything others before her haven't already expressed, but Amy Schumer took a brave and important stance yesterday on gun control and gun violence following the shooting at a showing of her movie "Trainwreck" in Lafayette, Louisiana on July 23 where two people were killed and 9 seriously injured.
Amy choked back tears eulogizing the two women who were killed and spoke about how this tragedy affected her. She has aligned with her second cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer of NY, to promote this “Enough is Enough” message and put forth a plan to help ensure more effective gun control practices in the U.S.
Here's the full speech that Amy gave yesterday at Senator Chuck Schumer's office in Manhattan:
Amy then went on to a pre-planned appearance on The Daily Show to kick off Jon Stewart's final week of his show. She relayed to Jon how she got involved in this issue: “The fact that this happened — you want to act. I wanted to go down there and do whatever I could, this was in the works. I am so happy he [Sen. Schumer] invited me to be a part of it,” she said. View the video of her appearance here.
