Bossy's Favorite Things Vol III: Summer/Fall 2015

Ah, summer. The best time of the year. We are in full swing of beach vacations, steamy weather and ice cold cocktails. Well, I am at least. As we move from summer to fall here are some of my fave things to get you through.

Moscow MuleI won't tell you how many of these I've had so far this summer. Let's just say: it's a lot. And it's good for you too: ginger beer settles your tummy and vodka settles your brain. Besides all that, you won't have a more refreshing cocktail in the summertime...especially if you drink it out of the traditional copper mug. Add a sprig of mint to jazz it up. Learn how to make one here.

Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser and BalmI bought this stuff for my fingernails and it just didn't work out. But you know what? It's fabulous for your toes! Let's be real girls, sometimes in between pedicures our piggies get dry and cracked. Smooth some of this balm into your cuticles and generally all over your toesies to keep them supple and soft and you'll have the best looking feet at your pool/office/strip club. Buy here.

The Mindfulness Coloring Book: Anti-stress Art Therapy for Busy People
I have a secret: I like to color. It's relaxing and I love the smell of crayons.  It's also great for those times I need a break from everything else going on around me. And I'm happy to announce that adult coloring has come out of the closet and into the mainstream. According to Yahoo.com, "A growing trend among adults, coloring books are said to help their users de-stress and unwind." A friend got me this "Anti-stress Art Therapy" (aka coloring) book and I'm addicted to it. Get some colored pencils and go to town. I don't leave the house any more. Buy here.

Moleskin: Am I the only one who didn't know about this stuff? From Wikipedia: "Moleskin is a heavy cotton fabric, woven and then sheared to create a short, soft pile on one side." Still in the dark? Well, my friends, this stuff will change your life. Get the kind with the adhesive on the back, cut it down to size and slap it on those trouble areas on your feet where your shoes (heels, sandals, sneakers, loafers - whatever) rub you wrong and make you want to stab someone in the eye. Great for anyone (boys and girls alike) who needs to prevent or protect a blister. Buy here.

Marika workout pantsI love these leggings and capris because they stretch with you, don't roll down and are a little high-waisted so they keep all your business smooth and in place with no muffin top. They also carry a brand called "Marika Magic" that has Ultimate Slimming and Tummy Control options. You can find Marika products at Kohl's, Nordstrom Rack and of course, TJ Maxx, or you can buy online here.

Bubba Keg Hero Sport Water Bottles: I hope you look at this one and say to yourself: "Duh, I already have one of those" because if you don't, you're just not livin'. Sure it's just a water bottle. But you won't find one anywhere that keeps your shit as cold for as long as Bubba does. Slap on your big girl Marika pants and go get one. You can usually find Bubba Kegs at TJ Maxx for about $10 or you can buy online here.

Trainwreck
It will come as no surprise to you that I LOVED Trainwreck. It's crass, full of trashy language and stars a BAMF female lead. What more could you want? Sure, there's a cheesy love story woven in too, but I won't hold that against Amy Schumer - who wrote the screenplay - and director Judd Apatow. View the trailer at www.trainwreckmovie.com.

Need more Amy Schumer? Catch up on her Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer here.

Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible OilFor those of us girls with curly or course hair, the heat and humidity of summer can make our unruly hair curlier and courser (not a word) and just generally obnoxious. Bumble and bumble.'s Hairdresser's Invisible Oil to the rescue! Put a little on before you blow dry then again after it's dry to smooth it all down and voila! smooth, shiny hair just like Barbie. Black Mass by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill
True story of the shady deal between FBI agent John Connolly and South Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger. Having lived in Southie, I've read this book several times and it still boggles my mind that all this stuff went down there. Before the movie (starring Johnny Depp) comes out this fall, read the book. It's crazy shit; and in this case, the shit is all true! Buy here.
